Aviatrix

I had some Fleece Artist "Scotian Silk" left over from Margot's Rainbow Sweater; it is irresistably soft and colourful, and was the perfect yarn for this: The Aviatrix Baby Hat.
I'm kind of knitting them obsessively now; the first was green in newborn size. This second one is in the size 2-4, and fits both my girls perfectly. It looks particularly stunning with ribbon-strapped ballet dresses.

The earflap shaping is simple, clever, and beautiful.

It knits up in about two hours (that is, if you have two hours uninterrupted knitting time).

Now I'm scrounging for newborns to make these for, because really? Every newborn should have an aviator-style knitted hat, right?

  1. Aaaack! I love, love, love it! I was about to cast one on just yesterday (on your recommendation), but I forgot my knitting bag at home. It was a very growly lunch hour. I'm sure it will take me at least twice the amount of time to make it though.

That yarn is gorgeous knit into a hat! And the photos are great. I want to wear the hat and play with those blocks!

Now, do we get to see the newborn hats too?

  2. Gorgeous yarn. I knitted a similar hat from one of the Last Minute Knitted books for my granddaughter last year. it is such fun to see it come together and turn into a sweet hat.

  4. My step-mother made one for my youngest for christmas. So far he has refused to wear it (in his defense, he's been sick all week). Last night, however, on a crazy run to the grocery store, my middle Imp happily wore it (along with a thermal shirt and pajama bottoms) - he was quite a sight!

  5. Well that is just full of cuteness!! I've been loving that yarn for a while now, and am feeling tempted once again!! Maybe after I finish the 2 hats I am "currently" working on...must dig those out again. I always get the urge to start new projects right after Christmas, even though I have a few on the go from before the holidays!

  6. Love those colours! I had a lovely older lady sitting next to me on the plane to BC who so kindly offered to teach me how to knit in the round (she did giggle a little when she saw my previous attempts). She used to work in a wool shop and it was just such a lovely gift to be seated with someone that interesting and helpful. It was the first time I had picked up my knitting in a while, and a five hour flight was perfect for that. I've been thinking a lot about babes and warmth lately...this post makes me feel snug and cozy just seeing little Violet's rainbow cap!

  8. 2 *uninterrupted* hours for knitting? Come on! I worked on a 1 hr project yesterday for about 6 hrs. This turned out super cute, though. I'm going to make my first for a friend's baby just as soon as I settle on a yarn. :)

  18. OK, that hat is too cute! My hubby and I are both in the aviation industry and I think my daughter needs that hat! As soon as I finish my current project, I'll have to make one for her!
